Verizon's broadband customers now have access to two Cisco WebEx services that easily allow users to start an online meeting or get their own computer files from any Internet browser -- and do it all at a discount of at least 10 percent. The services are WebEx MeetMeNow and WebEx PCNow.
"These new services provided by Cisco WebEx will allow our individual and small-business broadband customers to interact with friends, clients and prospects online while maximizing their time, minimizing expenses and doing their part to reduce carbon emissions," said Alan Lough, director of corporate marketing for Verizon.
WebEx MeetMeNow allows subscribers to share with others anything on their desktops, such as PowerPoint slides. There are many options, such as the ability to share a webcam for instant video conferencing. Control can be shared to allow presentations by others in the meeting, not just the leader. People attending the online meetings can even call into an integrated phone number provided as part of the service, and the subscription allows for an unlimited number of meetings with up to 10 participants.
The service can be launched quickly from a system tray icon, Microsoft Outlook application, or from AOL's, Yahoo's, MSN's and Skype's instant messenger services.
Verizon customers can subscribe to WebEx MeetMeNow for $34.99 per month with a prepaid annual contract, or $43.99 per month on a month-to-month basis; discounts are already reflected in the price.
When users are away from their own computers, WebEx PCNow makes it easy to retrieve files. Using WebEx PCNow, Verizon customers can use any Internet browser or mobile device to get their personal files, programs, email, calendar and contacts.
Additionally, Verizon includes 100 MB (megabytes) of online storage with the service so users can store critical files online.
"We are excited to bring WebEx services to Verizon customers," said Ryan Azus, vice president of online sales for Cisco WebEx. "With WebEx services, Verizon customers can extend their reach and grow their businesses, as millions of existing WebEx users have."
Verizon customers can subscribe to WebEx PCNow for $9.59 per month per computer with a prepaid annual contract, or $11.99 per month on a month-to-month basis. Verizon customers who wish to set up remote access for more than one computer - up to 10 are allowed - will receive extra savings from Cisco WebEx; for instance, with an annual contract, a second computer can be set up for only 80 cents more per month. WebEx PCNow incorporates multiple security features to help ensure privacy including end-to-end SSL encryption.
