Transoxiana is the historical region of Turkistan in Central Asia east of the Amu Darya (Oxus River) and west of the Syr Darya (Jaxartes River). It roughly corresponds to present-day Uzbekistan and parts of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
Academy of Arts Music Department director Ahmad Sadri said that several scholars have been invited to make speeches at the seminar, including Human Asadi, Mohammadreza Darvishi, Sassan Fatemi, and Amir-Hossein Purjavadai from Iran as well as Ameneh Yusefzadeh from France, Richard Worth from the United States, and Abdul Ali Abdul Rashidov from Tajikistan.
Tar player Abdollah Sarv-Ahmadi, singer Habib Habibifar, and dotar player Ali Gholamrezaii will give performances on related themes at the gathering, he explained, adding that music workshops will also be held on the sidelines of the seminar.
The seminar is being cosponsored by the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, the Iranian Academy of Arts, and the Iranology Foundation.
