EMCOR Group - Leader In Virtual Design, Construction, Facility Services And Tech
EMCOR Group, Inc., a Fortune 500® leader in mechanical and electrical construction, energy infrastructure and facilities services for a diverse range of businesses globally, continues to expand its innovative use of building information modeling (BIM) technology, allowing the Company to dramatically improve efficiency, quality, productivity and safety, while minimizing costs and shortening project duration for clients. EMCOR is a leader in this technology, helping to guide the development and use of the technology by creating standards and best practices in collaboration with some of the country’s major trade groups.
BIM is the creation of a complete digital representation of all stages of the building process in order to facilitate exchange information in a digital format. BIM utilizes three-dimensional modeling concepts, information technology, and interoperable software to design, construct and operate/maintain a facility virtually in all aspects via information systems. It allows for the effective management of the pre-fabrication of project materials and enables the creation of new and innovative solutions for clients in every market sector that otherwise would not have been possible.
EMCOR first began use of BIM three years ago and currently deploys the technology at 26 of its operating companies---a number that is continuing to grow. Participating companies are interconnected through a common platform that enables them to aggregate and deploy the technology and information anywhere, as needed. As part of the process, EMCOR also uses the same customized collaborative concepts when working with its clients, creating a true platform of innovation by bringing together architecture and engineering professionals, general contractors and construction managers, and specialty contractors such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection, all at the beginning and throughout the lifecycle of a project.
“The most exciting part of BIM and our approach is that, while accomplishing so much on behalf of our clients over the last three years, it’s really just the beginning---the use of BIM technology in facility contracting is in its infancy; our capacity to utilize it is increasing all the time. We developed our use of this technology out of necessity; now our clients are demanding it,” said David Morris, Director of Virtual Construction for EMCOR Construction Services, a position that is increasingly growing in prominence within BIM-progressive companies. “EMCOR is a leader in utilizing BIM to transform traditional design/build concepts, which will have industry-changing advantages to engineers, specialty contractors, owners, and clients.”
EMCOR is also making strides through its ongoing collaboration with the Construction Users Roundtable (CURT), The Building Smart Alliance, American Institute of Architects, and Associated General Contractors of America on developing best practices in the use of BIM technology in integrated project delivery.
