CSR Ships 500 Million Bluetooth Devices with Teradyne ATE
PRESS RELEASE

March 2008

Teradyne, Inc., the leading supplier of automatic test equipment for microwave semiconductors, announced Cambridge Silicon Radio (CSR) of Cambridge, England has shipped their 500 millionth Bluetooth(R) device using Teradyne’s industry leading ATE solutions including the Gen4 Microwave instrument. At a celebration to mark the occasion, CSR accepted the 350th shipment of the Teradyne(R) Gen4.

CSR uses the Gen4 on its large installed base of FLEX(TM) test systems to test their BlueCore(R) device, the world's leading single-chip Bluetooth solution that is ranked first in every Bluetooth market segment. CSR’s BlueCore ICs are widely used in a variety of wireless products we turn on everyday like mobile phones, wireless headsets and almost all new models of laptop personal computers with Bluetooth capability.

"Since our beginning, CSR has chosen Teradyne for quality, low-cost-of-test solutions that help us stay ahead in the field of emerging wireless technologies,” said Patrick McNamee, vice president of product engineering, CSR. “It seems fitting to celebrate this significant milestone with Teradyne, the leader in wireless device test, who has enabled us to cost effectively test the millions of current generation wireless devices found in today’s consumer goods. Teradyne’s wireless test product roadmap gives us confidence that the FLEX family will continue to offer the best economics through high-efficiency, multisite test for the next generation of wireless devices.”

“Teradyne is excited to celebrate with CSR on their 500 millionth Bluetooth device shipment,” said Charles Grapy, Europe field operations manager, Teradyne. “At the same time we’re pleased CSR is marking a milestone with the delivery of Teradyne’s 350th shipment of the Gen4 Microwave instrument. The broad acceptance of the FLEX family by wireless manufacturers and subcontract test houses clearly differentiates Gen4 in the marketplace, and we value customers like CSR who have fueled its success.”

Teradyne’s FLEX test family, with over 1600 test systems shipped, advances test technologies in an architecture designed for high-efficiency, multisite test. FLEX family systems readily adapt to new test requirements. With a Universal Slot architecture and high-density instrument design, test engineers can dynamically match system configurations to changing production requirements on the test floor.

Teradyne's wireless test instruments, the Gen4 Microwave and recently introduced UltraWave 12G, cover the broadest range of complex wireless device test requirements, including wireless LAN, Bluetooth, set-top box (STB), cellular, and new emerging standards like WiMax® and ultrawideband. With 12 GHz operating range for both source and measure, a Universal RF port architecture, and unprecedented phase noise performance for RF ATE, UltraWave 12G provides flexible configurations to meet the most demanding wireless device test requirements for current and next generation devices.
