School of Visual Arts Celebrates New York Icons at the Tribeca Film Festival
EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT

Directors Guild Theater
New York

23 April - 4 May 2008

School of Visual Arts (SVA) has teamed up with the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival to celebrate Lou Reed and Julian Schnabel in a special screening of Lou Reed’s Berlin (2007) on Sunday, May 4, 7pm. Directed by Julian Schnabel, the film documents a 2006 performance of Lou Reed's 1973 concept album Berlin.

Following the screening, Vanity Fair writer Lisa Robinson will conduct a live interview with Reed and Schnabel about the project. Part of the series Conversations in Cinema, the program will take place at the Directors Guild Theater, 110 West 57th Street, New York City. More information can be found at www.tribecafilmfestival.org.

With help from some aspiring filmmakers, audiences at this year’s Festival will enjoy a fresh perspective on another New York icon: the Festival logo. More than 50 students at SVA have created original 10- to 30-second animations using the official Tribeca Film Festival logo that will appear in the pre-show reel at all screenings. The students represent three separate programs at SVA: the BFA Computer Art, Animation and Special Effects Department, the MFA Computer Art Department and the BFA Film, Video and Animation Department.

Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff founded the Tribeca Film Festival in 2001 following the attacks on the World Trade Center to spur the economic and cultural revitalization of lower Manhattan through an annual celebration of film, music and culture. The Festival’s mission focuses on assisting filmmakers to reach the broadest possible audience, enabling the international film community and general public to experience the power of cinema and promoting New York City as a major filmmaking center. Since its founding, the Festival has attracted over two million attendees from the US and abroad and has generated more than $425 million in economic activity for New York City.
