Over the last few years, the WAG has dedicated gallery space to the semi-permanent display of its considerable collection, highlighting various aspects as well as allowing long-term visual access to some of its most popular pieces, such as our late Renaissance Gort panel paintings and Group of Seven canvases.
WAG titled this venture Into The Collection, evocative of allowing audiences a vantage point to explore the varied nature of our holdings. For the next two installations of Into The Collection, the WAG will be taking a more personal approach to the near-24,000 piece strong collection it maintains in the public trust.
Into Our Collection: Part I will invite you to explore the collection through the eyes of the creative staff of the WAG. Undoubtedly passionate about the visual arts, the staff enjoys an intimate relationship to the works we collect.
WAG catalogue, photograph, conserve, install, light, publish, research, educate, promote, fundraise, and basically "shout from the rooftops" about the amazing works for which we are fortunate to serve as caretakers. Into Our Collection: Part I will introduce visitors to the personal favourites of our dedicated staff. From choices selected by long-term staff with over 30 years of familiarity to newer staff with fresh impressions, Into Our Collection: Part I will bring a wide range of works to your attention as well as interesting commentary as to the personal significance the selections hold.
