Platinum Creative, the in-house design agency which resides on the Full Sail University campus and is comprised predominantly of Full Sail graduates, was named as a winner in the 12th Annual Webby Awards.
Platinum Creative was honored for its work for The Los Angeles Film School (LAFS) and The Los Angeles Recording School (LARS). LAFS (www.lafilm.com) took the award in the Best Home/Welcome Page category winning over other top competitors such as National Geographic and WIRED Magazine, and LARS (www.larecordingschool.com) won in the category of School/University alongside four other finalists that included the School of Visual Arts and Bennington College.
Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by the New York Times, The Webby Awards are the leading international honors recognizing excellence on the Internet. The awards are judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, a 550-person judging academy and global organization whose members include: David Bowie, Virgin Group founder Richard Branson, AKQA Global Creative Director Rei Inamoto, "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening, Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington, Real Networks CEO Rob Glaser, and The Weinstein Company's Harvey Weinstein. The 12th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from over 60 countries and all 50 states.
"The Webby Awards honor the outstanding work that is setting the standard for the Internet and the bar is reaching staggering new heights" said Craig Daily, Platinum’s Creative Director. "The awards are a testament to the skill, talent and vision of our agency and the Full Sail graduates we employ."
Other well-known recipients of the awards include Stephen Colbert who earned special recognition as host on Comedy Central for his ability to use the Internet to connect with fans. In addition, a special achievement award also went to will.i.am of the pop sensation, the Black Eyed Peas for the "Yes We Can" video supporting presidential candidate, Barack Obama.
Winners will be honored at two New York City ceremonies: The Webby Film and Video Awards will be held on June 9th with Judah Friedlander of 30 Rock as the emcee, and The 12th Annual Webby Awards on June10th featuring Seth Meyers of Saturday Night Live as the host.
