The Black and White Gallery presents M E L T
EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT

Black and White Gallery
Williamsburg, Brooklyn

21 & 28 June 2008

The Black and White Gallery presents a segment of a new work in progress by Noemie Lafrance, choreographer of Descent.

The piece is performed by three dancers originally from Descent: Ori Lenkinski, Megan Metcalf and Emma Stein who will melt to a score of original electronic sounds composed and performed live by Erin McGonigle from E-xplo.

The sculptural costumes designed by Ms. Lafrance and made of bee’s wax and synthetic lanolin, will melt away as the dancers seated on a perch attached to the wall, will perform a choreographed range of textural arms, legs and torso movements inspired by the effect of heat. Melt explores the challenges of gravity on the vertical plane and the potential participation of real bodies in “wall mounted” art work. It depicts the unpredictable transformation of three leaking bodies moving under extreme heat.

Melt is a presentation initiative of The Black & White Gallery as a part of the On The Horizon event series. This work is produced by Sens Production [sensproduction.org] a non-profit arts organization dedicated to the production and creation of site-specific dance. Noemie Lafrance, the artistic director of Sens Production, has directed and choreographed Descent the critically acclaimed site-specific work for a twelve-story stairwell presented in the Clock Tower in November 2002.
