The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has joined the American Architectural Foundation (AAF) and the Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF) as a partner in the Architecture + Design Education Network (A+DEN).
“We have been taking our years of experience in providing award-winning architecture curriculum to Chicago teachers to support efforts in more communities nationally,” said Lynn J. Osmond, President and CEO, of the Chicago Architecture Foundation. “The goal of A+DEN is to raise the bar for design education in K-12 settings across the country. This partnership between A+DEN and the AIA will allow us to reach out to architects who are interested in working with youth and share with them some of the the most innovative design education programs in the country.”
Recognizing the value of a national K-12 design education program to foster an appreciation of the value of architecture, AAF and CAF created the A+DEN partnership in May 2005. The AIA is now joining them as a full partner, linking the AIA network of nearly 300 components across the country into this network.
“We are delighted that AIA will bring its national network of components into the A+DEN Partnership. The AIA is a valuable partner, and many of these components are already delivering high-quality k-12 Educational Programming,” said Ronald E. Bogle, Hon. AIA, President and CEO, of the American Architectural Foundation.
A+DEN identifies best practices for K-12 design education and creates a network of communication for organizations offering design education programs. To advance this, A+DEN holds a bi-annual conference to enable sharing of information among interested parties with the ultimate goal of increasing the number of K-12 educators and students participating in architecture and design education in the United States.
AIA Executive Vice President / CEO Christine McEntee stated, “This partnership will go far to advance the AIA’s diversity agenda, bringing architecture and design education into the classroom of thousands of potential future architects, and enabling a preferred future for the architecture profession.”
