The dignitaries who received the awards, included Mr Mohammed Khan of Nexus Equity, Mr Piyush Pandey of O & M, Mr Ravi Deshpande of Contract Advertising and well-known cinematographer and Ad film producer Mr Rajiv Menon.
Mr Alyque Padmase, former CEO of Lintas and Mr Chris D'Rozario, who created a stir in the 1980s when he was with Trikaya, Mumbai, and now based in New York with JWT were honoured in absentia. The awards consisted of a citation and a special memento.
Giving the background to the celebrations, Mr R V Rajan, Chairman of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations Committee said "We are happy that the Ad Club Madras is celebrating its Golden Jubilee during the year when Ad business in general and more so in Chennai was witnessing unprecedented boom in view of the retail explosion and IT industry's phenomenal growth.
He said, "a seres of events have been planned not only to celebrate the Golden Jubilee year in a fitting manner, but also to get a national focus of the Marketing and Advertising world to Ad.
Club Madras and its activities." The other Golden Jubilee events, apart from the Living Legends Night, planned during the year, included a commemoration oration by Mr Alyque Padmase on April seven, 2006.
The surplus from all the events will be used for establishing the Ad Club Golden Jubilee Memorial Hall, where future club meets could be held, he said.
Welcoming the members of the Living Legends Night, Ms Minitha Saxena, President of the Ad Club Madras briefly traced the history of the club and its activities over the years.
Inaugurated by Mr C R Srinivas, the then editor of Swadeshamitra Daily, with just 22 members, the club today has on its roster over 1,000 members, she said.
