The Surfrider Foundation has been named as the beneficiary for the 2nd Annual Design for Humanity event, which will take place on June 4 at the Avalon/Spider Club in Hollywood, CA. Part of Billabong USA’s charitable division, Design for Humanity brings together the best in fashion, art and music while raising awareness about the world’s oceans, waves and beaches.
The 2nd Annual Design for Humanity event will feature a spectacular runway fashion show with one-of-a-kind celebrity design collaborations with Amber Valetta, Joy Bryant and Charlotte Ronson, a photo and art exhibit and auction, and special performances by electro-pop duo MGMT and LA’s hottest DJ, Steve Aoki.
“We are honored to be named as beneficiaries for this year’s Billabong Design for Humanity event,” says Surfrider Foundation CEO Jim Moriarty. “The event is an incredible display of some of the country’s most talented designers, artists and musicians coming together for a great cause.”
The evening will begin with a photo and art exhibit and auction at the Avalon’s Spider Club and will showcase the work of well-known industry artists including Wolfgang Bloch and Chris Jordan. Following the auction, the main floor of The Avalon will host a full-scale runway show that will showcase Billabong custom swim pieces, one-of-a-kind celebrity collaboration, and signature limited edition swimsuits from Lisa Kline and Jenny Han for the Cruise 2009 collection that will be available at retailers nationwide. After the fashion show, MGMT will perform and DJ Steve Aoki will spin throughout the evening.
“Design for Humanity provides Billabong with a great opportunity to celebrate fashion, art and music while giving back to an organization that strives to preserve our way of life,” says Candy Harris, Women’s Brand Director at Billabong. “We are excited to have this year’s proceeds benefiting the Surfrider Foundation, whose tireless efforts go into protecting our costal regions and waterways for future generations to enjoy.”
In addition to the auction, fashion show and live performances, Urban Outfitters will carry exclusive Design for Humanity t-shirts by cultural icon Cory Kennedy. Proceeds from the sales of all the collections and the t-shirts will benefit the Surfrider Foundation.
