SVA Presents Artist Booth and Two Lectures at the 2008 Affordable Art Fair

For the sixth year in a row, SVA will be participating in the Affordable Art Fair (AAF), an annual event that gives both first-time buyers and experienced art collectors the opportunity to buy contemporary art priced between $100 and $10,000.

From June 12 – 15 at the Altman Building and Metropolitan Pavillion, 135 West 18th Street, the SVA booth will feature works in a variety of media from members of the class of 2008: Elizabeth Cosby (MFA Fine Arts), Thaddeus Dryja (MFA Photography, Video and Related Media), Michael Cody Drury (MFA Fine Arts), Daniel John Gadd (BFA Fine Arts), Ben Handzo (MFA Photography, Video and Related Media), Allison Kaufman (MFA Photography, Video and Related Media), Avery McCarthy (BFA Photography), Sean Basil McGiver (MPS Digital Photography), David Mramor (MFA Fine Arts), John Solis (BFA Illustration) and Matthew White (MFA Fine Arts).

SVA will also be hosting two lectures at the AAF. ?In Focus: Collecting Photography (Thursday, June 12, 7pm) will be moderated by Michael Foley, owner of FOLEYgallery, and feature gallerist Jen Bekman; Michelle Dunn, deputy director of Aperture; and photographer Amy Stein (MFA 2006 Photography, Video and Related Media). Top 10 Tips for Starting Your Collection (Saturday, June 14, 2pm) will be moderated by author Lisa Hunter and include gallerist George Billis and Tom Delavan, editor at large for Domino magazine. In addition, the College will participate in “Figuration: Emblem or Allegory,” a booth with work by MFA students from five metropolitan graduate school programs, curated by Dan Halm (MFA 2001 Illustration as Visual Essay; BFA 1994 Illustration).
