On Tuesday, June 3rd, The ADVERTISING Club honored Lawrence Flanagan, Chief Marketing Officer, MasterCard Worldwide, at the 2008 Advertising Person of the Year luncheon, which took place at the Metropolitan Club, New York City. The Advertising Person of the Year recognizes industry leaders who have made outstanding contributions to our industry.
Master of Ceremonies, Nina DiSesa, McCann, led the event of roasters who shared their own anecdotes of their personal and professional experiences with Larry. The list of roasters included, Roy Spence, Chairman & CEO, GSD&M Idea City; co-presenting, Marina Maher, President and CEO, Maher Communications and Don Petit, CEO, Mally Beauty; Joyce King Thomas, EVP, Chief Creative officer, McCann Erickson and Tom Wade, EVP and CMO, PGA Tour.
The highlight of the event was when Larry presented, the Lawrence Flanagan Scholarship to Valentino Smith, a rising senior at Long Island University, where he majors in Marketing and Management. He was chosen for this grant not only because of his strong academic record, but also because of his passion for advertising and marketing. Valentino is on his University’s Academic Dean’s List, and maintains a strong GPA while balancing two part-time jobs and participating as a member of the AAF LIU Integrated Marketing Communication Team.
