The Lift
Southbank Centre Square, Belvedere Road
2 July 2008
Four storeys high and groundbreaking in design, The Lift is a beautiful, new mobile venue and hub of Lift Festival 2008.
In 2006, architects AOC won a competition to build a new mobile meeting and performance space that would become the centrepiece of the Lift Festival.
In consultation with over two hundred people from east and south-east London, AOC have created a flexible and inviting venue, that transforms its location; be that city square, playing field or housing estate.
The Lift is a theatre, a concert hall, an open air stage, a cinema, a gallery and a public meeting space. With a translucent colourful skin and a unique shape, The Lift is both beautiful and useful to its local community.
Launched in Stratford Park (12-21 June) and moving to the Southbank Centre (26 June - 6 July) The Lift will connect local audiences with international artists and host performances, workshops, discussions, screenings and celebrations during Lift Festival 2008.
On 2 July, join architects AOC who will introduce this unique venue and describe the process of designing and building The Lift.
