July 2008
Academy of Art University, School of Graphic Design 2008 graduate Sumila Mehta is the recipient of the 2008 AIGA San Francisco Enrichment Scholarship.
This is the third consecutive year that an Academy of Art University graphic design student has received this prestigious award, and the fifth time in the past nine years.
Each year a jury of design professionals conducts a rigorous selection process. The 2008 jury included Josh Chen of Chen Design, Jennifer Sonderby, SF MOMA, and Ravinder Basra, Education Chair, AIGA San Francisco.
The annual design competition was developed to support and encourage diversity in graphic design. It provides an opportunity for AIGA student members to expand their educational experience through special programs offered by accredited institutions both nationally and internationally.
The $3,000 scholarship is awarded as a means for the recipient to attend the design program of their choice.
In addition to this scholarship, Sumila will also be asked to design the announcement for the 2009 AIGA SF Enrichment Scholarship.
“I am thrilled for Sumila. She is a wonderfully talented designer and this scholarship is a testament to her abilities," said Mary Scott, Chair, School of Graphic Design, Academy of Art University.
