Powerhouse Museum Presents: Modern Times – Untold Stories of Modernism
EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT

Powerhouse Museum
Sydney, Australia

8 August 2008

While Modernism appears old, if not antique, why does it still command a powerful influence on 21st century culture, despite many efforts to herald its demise? Designers, architects and art historians will address this conundrum through first-hand narratives, films and research on inter-disciplinary projects.

Designers Mary Featherston and Bob Woodward are joined by architectural historian, Professor Philip Goad, and art historians Andrew McNamara and Ann Stephen, also principal curator of the exhibition Modern times.

SESSIONS
  • Andrew McNamara – The colour of modernism: the originating motivations

  • Bob Woodward – From Alto to Al Alamein: a first-hand account of designing modern fountains

  • Ann Stephen – Mondrian’ after-life: in diverse art, design and architecture

  • Mary Featherston – Talking chairs: collaborating with Grant Featherston and Robin Boyd on Expo 67

  • Philip Goad – Domes, shells and spires: a new architecture of concrete structures in the 1950s

  • Followed by a round table discussion
