The 2006/2007 red dot communication design yearbook, edited by design expert Professor Dr. Peter Zec, has been selected by the Portuguese Serralves Foundation for the “Gateways” exhibition in Porto, Portugal. “Gateways” is an international exhibition of contemporary book covers, for which books from the four corners of the globe can be submitted. The Serralves Foundation, which has made it its task to heighten public awareness of contemporary art and its related disciplines, selected the best submissions and will present the book covers selected for "Gateways" from the 30th of July 2008 – including the cover designed by the Berlin studio "Fons Hickmann m23“ for the 2006/2007 red dot communication design yearbook.
The red dot communication design yearbook annually documents the results of one of the most important and major design competitions of the world - the red dot design award, which focuses on communications design. The editor, Professor Dr. Peter Zec, was thus more than delighted that his own book also measured up to the high demands of the design scene. Zec: “We are very pleased that the Serralves Foundation has selected our book for the exhibition – personally as the editor, but also collectively as the publishing house, red dot edition, that publishes the yearbook. Fons Hickmann has succeeded in designing an extraordinary cover that lends the book its very own profile and at the same time measures up to our high demands.”
The inclusion of the 2006/2007 red dot communication design yearbook in the Gateways exhibition signifies the second success for one of the red dot yearbooks designed by Fons Hickmann: at the beginning of the year, the 2007/2008 red dot communication design yearbook received the “Award for Typographic Excellence” from the Type Directors Club in New York for the overall typographic and photographic design by the Fons Hickmann m23 studio in Berlin.
