This year’s Design Week is the fifth in the series. Past success and last years' visitor count,55,000, have brought more prospective participants than ever before. As a result, Design Week lasts for 10 days in 2008.
In 2008 the central theme is Dialogue referring to the interaction between user and object, the cooperation between client/manufacturer and designer, and the active relationship between designer and society.
This year Design Week has a star designer guest, the most original figure in the contemporary design scene, the Dutch Marcel Wanders gives a lecture in Budapest.
The fifth anniversary of Design Week is celebrated with an initiative realised in collaboration with design shops, more than 50 shops around Budapest offer a 15% discount the coupons placed in the program booklet.
In the Museum of Applied Arts the 2008 Hungarian Design Awards exhibition and the Form on Tour travelling exhibition showcasing the highlights from the past five years of the prestigious Awards is being organised.
Several European traveling exhibitions are arriving to Budapest during the first week of October, amongst them the Italian Design on Tour introducing the best of Italian design, Design Match showcasing Czech, Slovakian, Austrian and Hungarian achievements while Taste MOMEnts introduces the most progressive initiatives in a unique form.
The traditional design tour organised as part of Design Week offers an insight into the interior design secrets of some exclusive Budapest hotels with the guidance of acclaimed Hungarian interior designers.
The series of mini art exhibitions, Portfolio, displaying the work of young illustrators at 20 cultural centres of the capital is a novelty of the program.
A special Pecha Kucha Night, WAMP, spectacular fashion shows, a trend presentation and roundtable discussions are also being organised.
Events of Design Week are taking place in more than 40 venues around the city.
