There’s no easy way to learn that one is getting fired, but the way Valentino's head designer, Alessandra Facchinetti, found out she was being dismissed seemed especially brutal: She read about it in the press.
After reports started circulating that Valentino’s accessories designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli had been named Ms. Facchinetti’s co-successors, the ousted designer issued a statement: “It was with deep regret that I learnt from the press that I would no longer be working with Valentino. This news came as a great surprise, since the company’s top management has not yet seen fit to inform me.”
Ms. Facchinetti, who had been negotiating terms of her departure for the past month, succeeded the label’s founding designer just a year ago and showed her final collection for Valentino last week.
