V&A South Kensington, Cromwell Road, London SW7 2RL
United Kingdom
12 December 2008-15 March 2009
The V&A's collection of Japanese ukiyo-e is one of the largest and finest in the world, with over 25,000 prints, paintings, drawings and books.
It is not since The Floating World exhibition in 1973, however, that a substantial number have been on show at the Museum.
This display will reflect the strengths of the V&A's outstanding collection, from elegant fan prints and glorious full-colour prints to artists' sketches and copyists' drawings that offer unique insights into the creation of ukiyo-e.
A further selection of copyists' drawings will be displayed in Room 45, the Toshiba Gallery of Japanese Art.
