In a partnership to elevate the human and commercial potential of Design to Improve Life, international jury members from the Copenhagen-based design organisation, INDEX:, will be in Singapore to shortlist winners for the 2009 INDEX: Award, the world’s largest monetary design award presented biennially.
This is part of the Singapore-Denmark Design Co-operation Programme, which was established through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in June 2008.
INDEX: seeks to raise global understanding and awareness of design by knowledge sharing, publications and major events.
One of the key events, the INDEX: Award, does not categorise design according to traditional design disciplines, but by five categories vital to human life: BODY, HOME, WORK, PLAY and COMMUNITY.
The INDEX: Award Exhibition presenting the winners of the 2009 INDEX: Award will feature at the Singapore Design Festival in November 2009.
Apart from hosting the INDEX: Jury Session for the 2009 Awards, the DesignSingapore Council will be organising a roundtable on Design Education involving jury members, education policy makers from the Ministry of Education and design practitioners.
The partnership with INDEX: will also help with the creative industries capability and business development. Singapore will be sending Singapore design students to INDEX: Summer Camps to learn from established designers and international students.
INDEX: Award submissions will also have the opportunity to present to investors and manufacturers for a chance to bring-to-market some of these design ideas.
Additionally, the partnership will allow presentations of Singapore Design in two other INDEX: Partner Cities.
These presentations will raise further awareness of Singapore’s design capabilities and reinforce the country as a leading design hub in Asia.
