The One Club Announces The Loerie Awards Exhibition

The Loerie Awards, named after a rare South African bird, were launched in 1978 by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), as a strategic initiative to promote television advertising on the newly launched medium in the country.

Over the years, the Loeries have evolved with the industry, recognising creative excellence in radio and print, and in recent years expanding to encompass all points of interface between a brand and its customers – from billboards to business cards and buildings to broadcasts.

Thirty years on, those works that win Gold or Grand Prix Loeries at the awards frequently go on to receive similar recognition at international awards events like Cannes, the Clios, D&AD and the One Show, which the One Club is home to.

“The One Club is seen as the most prestigious advertising awards granting organisation globally, so it’s fitting that the very best in South African advertising would be exhibited here,” says Kevin Swanepoel, president of the One Club.

The Loerie Awards Travelling Exhibition has been making its way around Southern Africa, stopping at agencies and educational institutions along the way.

The exhibition aims to inspire a new generation of creative talent in South Africa, and it is for this reason that it is sponsored by the SABC, who are a major sponsor of The Loerie Awards as well.

“We are proud that South African talent is being showcased at such a prestigious global destination,” Dineo Mondlane, general manager Corporate Marketing SABC. “We believe that it’s crucial to inspire and nurture South African creative talent, and what better way to achieve this than by providing our award winners with international exposure as well.”

And what fantastic exposure the Loeries will have in New York City. “The Loerie exhibition at The One Club will be eagerly attended by the professional New York ad community as well as being open to the public at large,” says Swanepoel.

“The creative quality of the work that we’ve been seeing at The Loerie Awards in recent years is truly outstanding,” says Andrew Human, managing director of the Loeries.

“The exhibition shows the industry’s combination of world-class creativity with a unique local flavour, making it a must-see for anyone in the brand communication industry.”
