Watch video on the go. Surf the wireless Internet at lightening speed. Share live video during a cell phone call. AT&T announced these services and more are available on the third-generation (3G) mobile broadband network in Monroe County.
AT&T operates the nation's fastest 3G network, according to recent data compiled by leading independent wireless research firms.
With the addition of 3G technology to 22 cell sites, AT&T's ultra fast wireless network is now available in Stroudsburg, Mt. Pocono, Tobyhanna and Hamilton Square. The 3G network has also been enhanced along I-80, I-380, and routes 33, and 209.
"Monroe County is a picturesque destination in the Pocono mountains where visitors and residents want fast wireless connections for live video, web browsing, and e-mail."
"The expansion of our 3G network means consumers traveling through this area, whether it be 'leaf-peeping' in fall or skiing this winter now have more places to access the information they need to stay connected to family, friends and business associates," said Dan Lafond, vice president and general manager for AT&T's wireless division in Pennsylvania.
The AT&T 3G network is now available in 320 U.S. major metropolitan areas. The company will deliver 3G service to nearly 350 leading U.S. metro areas by the end of 2008.
AT&T's wireless network is based on GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) technologies, the most open and widely used wireless network platform in the world.
As a result, only AT&T can offer 3G data roaming in more than 60 countries, including Japan and South Korea, as well as voice calling in more than 200 countries, in addition to the company's constant 3G expansion in the U.S.
Nearly all devices in AT&T's current portfolio are "world phones" that can be used around the world.
