The Young Designer of the Year Award was won by NCAD student Naoise Ó Conchubhair at the Annual Golden Spiders Award Ceremony in the Burlington Hotel on November 20th Naoise's winning project and design portfolio included the design and development of http://www.innovativeevents.ie.
He is studying Visual Communications and said his biggest challenge was to push the boundaries of graphic design whilst working within the constraints of web design.
Naoise's prize includes a six month apprenticeship with Arekibo under the tutelage of Managing Director Martin Casey. As a student in 1998, Martin had entered a university project called 'Born with a Broken Tongue' in the Europrix Multimedia Awards and he won.
"Looking back on my experience of winning a young talent award at the beginning of my career, I know that the benefits it brings to your confidence are unquantifiable and it helps to open doors that would normally be difficult to open." says Martin.
It certainly opened doors for Martin -within a year of winning the award, he and colleague Tom Carroll founded Zartis.com and then sold it on to Breakaway Solutions for $ 18 million in July 2000.
The two then formed Arekibo in the summer of 2001. The company is a leading web design and internet consultancy agency providing customised online business solutions and strategies to enable both public and private organizations optimise the business and communications potential of the internet.
