Young designer Demet Bilici, will be exhibiting at Salone Satellite, the special pavillion of International Milan Furniture Fair introducing new young talents, with her individual stand between the dates of 5-10 April 2006.

No designer living in Turkiye has individually participated to SaloneSatellite before. Recently Universities ITU in 2003, and ODTU in 2004 have displayed their projects at school booths. Demet Bilici's product "Sit Down Here" was displayed among 5 projects at ITU booth.

Designer will be displaying two products, "Yaptim Bozdum" modular living unit and "Drop" washbasin, at her own booth situated in the most appealing/exciting and colorful pavillion of the fair, Salone Satellite. Both products have been manufactured using DuPont's Corian massive surface coating material and with an experimental approach Corian has gained new and alternative processing characteristics.

Demet Bilici won "Young Designer of the year" award at Adesign Fair 2004 held in Istanbul Turkiye. In the year 2005 she took place in the highly influential international design and lifestyle magazine Wallpaper with her "Drop" project, under the topic of "10 most wanted designers" introducing new young talents to the world.

DROP

DROP sink has taken place in the July/August issue of Wallpaper where Demet Bilici has been introduced amongst the "10 most wanted designers".

This is her graduation project. It is a material based study because she was matched with ARKAD, a "Corian" factory which is specialised in sink production. After some observations on the production techniques and the latter processes, she created a concept of water drops - the main reason for the existance of sinks.

The inside of the sink has the form of a whirlpool and the outer surface is curved softly just to give a slight feeling of the movements of water's surface when a drop falls on it. These effects provide a pure and refreshing bath joy.

The soft wavy curves on the surface create an illusion as if the tide is very deep to put objects on it; however the deepness is only 5mm which causes no trouble in usage.

YAPTIM BOZDUM

This project was previously exhibited at ADesignFair(2004), a local organization that aimed to create a common sense in Turkish design world and introduce Turkish designers to public. The project took place in the "young designers" saloon.

Demet Bilici was chosen YOUNG DESIGNER OF THE YEAR with this project. The judge composed of leading Turkish designers. The judging criteria were conceptual originality, creativity, functionality, aesthetics and adaptability to real life.

"Yaptim-Bozdum" is a modular living space composed of (50x50cm) square plates that make up the floor. Onto these squares, attached are various objects and furniture like stool, table, wine-holder, clothes rack, newspaper rack. By sliding these squares, you can arrange your room according to your momentary needs.

This is a material based conceptual project. As well as the concept, the project also aimed to be an experimental platform for alternative uses of "Corian". The designers (Demet Bilici and Beritan F?rat Ar?k) aimed to analyze corian and its production techniques. During this process, the material was forced to its limits to produce some of the objects like the wine-holders, the clothes rack and the newspaper rack.
