Landmark Eco-Friendly Architecture for Canary Wharf, London
PRESS RELEASE

December 2008

The Landmark development at Canary Wharf is a striking development of two shimmering, sleek residential towers in Canary Wharf, centred around a landscaped public piazza featuring a selection of shops, restaurants and cafes.

The Landmark's 45 storey East Tower will offer the highest residential accommodation in London reaching 140 meters when completed in autumn 2010.

But it's not only the purchasers and investors' tenants who will be living in the lap of luxury at The Landmark; it will become a thriving home for wildlife too - right in the heart of the financial capital, allowing this new architectural development to be pleasantly eco-friendly.

Two of The Landmark's lower buildings, will feature 'brown roofs' dedicated to ecologically-friendly use. The roof area will be formed of a sedum mat, planted with wild flowers, sedum and rockery plants.

The edges, which get wind blown, will feature hardier more resistant planting, whilst the more central areas of the roofs will be planted with wild flowers and grasses.

Reclaimed timber and substrate will be mixed with organic matter to create nesting areas and shallow ponds on the roofs. The various grasses planted on the roofs will benefit the Black Redstarts known to be local to the Canary Wharf area and other wild birds that inhabit the surroundings.

The Landmark also features a state-of-the-art biomass boiler and CHP (Combined Heat and Power) plant to provide heat and hot water to all of the apartments within the development and also to the site's commercial premises, creating CO2 savings when compared with a traditional heating/hot water installation.

The 31 storey West Tower, scheduled for completion from the end of 2009, is already at full height, offering stunning views across the financial centre of Canary Wharf and out across London to the South of the development.
