December 2008
2008's Art Basel Miami Beach has concluded its run of cultural and social events that proved to be a year for the appreciation of art and design, and not just the sale of art due to the woes of the global economy.
Lending its creative expertise to beautify the exhibits was The Design Group (TDG), who produced decor, set design and room transformation for two of Art Basel Miami Beaches' top exhibits - the Art Photo Expo Miami within the In Fashion Photo exhibit, and for the Gen Art Vanguard New Contemporary Art Fair.
Under the direction of TDG's President and Creative Director, Mr. Jean Augustin, and in conjunction with Art Photo Expo's organizer, Francois Trabelsi, TDG's team of international designers transformed a 30,000 square-foot space of a municipal parking lot in Miami's Design District into an outdoor gallery, and constructed a custom VIP lounge for iconic supermodel and muse for the exhibit, Naomi Campbell.
The red carpet entrance was created by TDG and accented with luminaries, trussing and a branded step & repeat banner. Natural grass was both underfoot and on the walls that led exhibit-goers through winding walkways accented with tropical plants and custom built Plexiglas Walls adorned with Campbell's exhibit photos were lit from within, providing ambiance lighting for the lounge.
TDG International Design Florist recreated Naomi Campbell's world-famous signature using fresh white carnations against a grass wall backdrop. And custom-built "collars" with sheer draping and colorful lighting concealed support beams of Miami's midtown bridge standing above the parking lot-turned- paradise art and lounge space.
