December 2008
Motorola, Inc. announced that the company has been selected by China Telecommunications Corporation (China Telecom), a leading telecom operator in China, as a key CDMA network infrastructure supplier to upgrade a portion of its nationwide CDMA 2000 1X network to include next-generation broadband data capability and advanced multi-media services.
Motorola will provide CDMA radio access infrastructure for 42 cities in nine provinces across the country.
Implementation of advanced data capability with this next-generation 1X technology will enable the delivery of personalized, rich media experiences such as video streaming and music downloads to mobile subscribers in China.
With the CDMA network upgrade project, Motorola will provide China Telecom with the latest versions of its CDMA2000 1X and next-generation CDMA equipment at thousands of cell sites.
Installation of this new equipment will expand the coverage footprint and replace older generation 1X equipment in markets where Motorola network gear has been operating for many years.
The equipment will be installed in early 2009 and is part of an overall larger project to upgrade China Telecom's entire nationwide CDMA network to next-generation capability.
"China is a major market for Motorola. The deployment of next generation CDMA technology for China Telecom is another milestone in Motorola's long history of supporting major telecom operators in China," said Ruey-Bin Kao, president of Motorola China.
"Motorola has a very significant install base of CDMA 1X equipment that will be expanded and upgraded reinforcing our position as a leading wireless infrastructure supplier in China."
Telecom operators in China are now providing both wireline and wireless telecommunications services to customers after the recent restructuring of the telecom industry.
It is increasingly important that telecom solution providers are able to offer a full range of end-to-end solutions to meet the growing demand for telecom service convergence in China.
With an unmatched solution portfolio to deliver broadband everywhere, Motorola is well positioned to support operators to deliver high speed voice, data and Internet services at home and on the go.
