For the first time in the world, tattooists from all both sides of the globe will converge to showcase a truly global tattoo convention at the inaugural Singapore Tattoo Show at the Singapore Expo.
Asian tattoo artists hailing from China, Indonesia, East and West Malaysia, the Philippines, Saipan, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand will be side by side with their western counterparts from Austria, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States.
This event will be where visitors will be exposed to the cultural and artistic differences of this Neolithic artform.
Never before has an east-west tattoo convention been held anywhere in the world and of such a scale.
The Singapore Tattoo Show currently boasts an exhibitor line up more than 120 tattoo studios and 16 tattoo vendors from various countries, with half of the local tattoo studios supporting the show.
The Singapore Tourism Board has also endorsed the Singapore Tattoo Show as a platform for artistic expression and the exchange of ideas across cultures.
The show is also positioned to help change perceptions about the tattoo industry and against people with tattoos.
Historically, heavily tattooed people have been associated with crime and an underground movement against authority.
Tattoos in the present day are beginning to be seen as an art form and mode of expression for the fashion conscious and trend setters.
"I am pleased to be able to share my vision for the tattoo industry in Asia for the very first time. "
"The fusion of east and west tattoo artistry has been a personal passion of mine and the opportunity to share and educate the public with a community of creative artists is a dream come true," said Kirby Lian from Utopia Studio, the visionary behind the show.
The show will also showcase all the various modern and traditional tattoo styles with tattoo artists ticking away with their machines and traditional tools in an exciting exhibition-styled atmosphere.
Activities at the event include daily tattoo contests amongst exhibiting studios, live tattooing and live band performances.
Visitors to the show may also get inked at the show, with any of the exhibitors.
Legends in the tattoo industry such as Paul Booth of Last Rites Tattoo (USA), Chris Garver of Miami Ink (USA), Robert Hernandez (Spain) and Bob Tyrrell of Night Gallery (USA) will be at the Singapore Tattoo Show 09.
