January 2009
Defying the economy and year-end budget meltdowns, Boston's Alphabet Arm Design added a record 18 new clients in Q4, closing 2008 with a third consecutive year of 20 percent growth.
Ad industry trades have cited dim reports for the same year, with steep spending declines for agency services and media buys, however Alphabet Arm Design's performance runs counter to these projections.
Founder and Senior Designer Aaron Belyea attributes his firm's growth to its high touch customer service and bold 'un-corporate" design that is valued by clients with budgets that need to do more with less.
Many of the firm's logos can be found in publisher, Gestalten latest best selling series, Los Logos 4 that showcases outstanding designs.
"2008 proved that companies still need to market their products despite less marketing resources, so the graphic design program must be bolder, edgier and do more work to create an identity that builds business," said Belyea.
"Our model is to create a fun and energized process for our clients, and our steady growth allows us to enter 2009 with a unique optimism, despite numerous industry forecasts."
Alphabet Arm Design's newest national clients join The Dave Matthews Band, Counting Crows and the Dresden Dolls and include noteworthy additions from hard-hit business sectors:
In a highly competitive industry, Alphabet Arm Design's early entry into CD and merchandising design for popular musicians has catapulted the firm's reputation beyond Boston's South End to supporting new clients with entrepreneurial start-ups, artist management companies, higher education institutions, non-profit organizations and retailers.
It's probable that it's the only design firm that is tattooed on the arm of its founder. Aaron Belyea whose nickname "Alphabet Arm" became the firm's moniker.
"I literally take my business to sleep with me every night," laughs Belyea.
"The reward of this commitment is that we enter 2009 as a hot studio firm to watch, and that's no small achievement in this market."
