The court painters of the 16th through 18th century portrayed the privileged world of royalty through their costume, jewelry and emblems of office.
This NCMA exhibition glimpses personalities such as Maria Theresa of Austria or Louie XIV of France when they were shown as miniature adults, before childhood was seen as a phase in and of itself.
The exhibition surveys the conception of royalty and aristocracy in art and offers a look at people who later became important historic personages.
