An exhibition of prints, video and painting by current students at the School Of Visual Arts examines the boundaries between representation and abstraction.
Amanda Frena, inspired by city life and the human psyche, uses ink and markers to create drawings reminiscent of street art, art nouveau and medical illustration. Frena is a student in the BFA Illustration and Cartooning Department.
Using an abstract geometric vocabulary, Shih Heng Huang’s presents a series of digital paintings that offers an individual interpretation of conventional Asian imagery. Huang is a student in the MFA Computer Art Department.
Miryana Todorova uses expressive brushwork and a high-keyed palette to examine social interactions in crowded public spaces. Balancing abstract and figurative elements to depict settings such as concerts and protests, her work conveys a sense of congestion and alienation. Todorova is a student in the BFA Fine Arts Department.
Combining contemporary animation and traditional monotype prints, Taili Wu’s installation Cocoon explores the unconscious. Using imagery inspired by molecules and atoms, the artist creates “cells” in both her video and embossed prints to evoke elemental realms. Wu is a student in the MFA Computer Art Department.
