Sotheby’s has opened its Jakarta office and appointed Deborah Iskandar Managing Director, Indonesia Representative Office, to direct its operations in the country.
The opening coincides with a preview of the highlights from the sale of Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in April.
Sotheby’s first started its business in Jakarta in 1996. The opening of the Jakarta office and the appointment of Managing Director signifies yet another strategic move of the auctioneer in Asia.
Kevin Ching, Chief Executive Officer of Sotheby’s Asia said, “Collectors from Indonesia have been playing a very significant and active role in our sales for many years. Our decision to open a representative office in Jakarta testifies to the importance of Indonesian-based clients to Sotheby’s global business. It also demonstrates Sotheby’s commitment to Indonesia and our determination to bring even better client service to that country.”
