5 May - 30 August 2009
Through films, videos and photographs, the exhibition reflects on the mythification and "aestheticising" of delinquency and explores the underlying political and socioeconomic conditions that led to its emergence.
The exhibition is the result of a generational reading of this film genre.
The characters and their territories, the aesthetic, music and clichés surrounding these films based on delinquent youth culture, clearly hold a particular fascination for the generation born in the restless decade of the 70s.
Therefore, most of the exhibition will consist of audiovisual montages of the films, accompanied by a wide range of contextualising material: documentaries from the same period, interviews, photographs, original objects, documentation, posters, photochromes, city maps, press cuttings, etc.
The exhibition will include film-forum sessions consisting of film screenings followed by discussions with participants and experts, that will allow views to create a full profile of the identifying features of the genre.
They will be covering the whole range from its high points (famous films like the Perros Callejeros saga, El Pico and Navajeros) to oddities and B-grade films that were not very widely seen but helped to shape this filmmaking genre that somatized a harsh social situation.
