Ecoprintworks.com, printing with a solvent-free, water-based ink from Australia offers American clientele a green alternative to conventional screen-printing.
Despite health and environmental concerns, the US screen-printing industry is composed nearly entirely of printers using Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) based Plastisol inks.
Although PVC is recognized by Greenpeace and others as one of the most harmful plastics produced today, the inks it produces are both easy to work with and create vibrant prints.
Because of these properties, and the historical underperformance of water-based alternatives, Plastisols have remained the industry mainstay.
EcoPrintworks is working with Colormaker–maker of fabric printing inks in Australia–to bring a solvent-free, water-based ink to the U.S. market.
"We loved our business," said Peter Imai, owner of EcoPrintworks. "But wanted to be more responsible with the decisions we were making. When we discovered Permaset Aqua, a water-based ink that prints this well, is soft to the touch, and ultra durable, making the switch was a no brainer."
"As businesses and individuals alike increasingly scrutinize the products they offer and consume, finding a green alternative has not only helped us sleep better at night, but it has also helped our bottom line. "
With the launch of Ecoprintworks.com, Imai and co-founder David Whitaker look to bring eco friendly screen-printing to a national audience.
