Autodesk Grabs Oscar Honor For Visual Effects On Benjamin Button

For the 14th consecutive year, every film nominated for the Best Visual Effects Academy
Award was shaped with Autodesk digital filmmaking tools. Autodesk congratulates Matte World Digital for its Oscar-winning visual effects work on the film tThe Curious Case of Benjamin Button.’

"This year's Academy Award nominees continued to push digital imagery to new heights–from intricate and complex computer-generated characters to pyrotechnical marvels to invisible effects so realistic they deceive the eye," said Marc Petit, Senior Vice President, Autodesk Media & Entertainment.

"We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the artists and technologists who enthrall audiences with spectacular visuals. We are honored that these filmmakers utilize Autodesk digital technology from planning and previsualization right down to final grade."

Autodesk technology was used to shape Oscar-winning and Academy Award nominated films in the following categories:

Achievement In Visual Effects

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," for work by Matte World Digital / Asylum VFX / Lola VFX / Evil Eye Pictures using Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya 3D, Maya, Smoke, Inferno, Lustre, Flame and Combustion

"Iron Man," for work by Industrial Light & Magic / Pixel Liberation Front / The Orphanage using Autodesk Maya, Inferno and 3ds Max

"The Dark Knight," for work by Double Negative / Framestore using Autodesk Maya, Maya nCloth, Syflex Maya, Mudbox, Matchmove, Movimento and Softimage 3D

Best Animated Feature Film

"Kung Fu Panda," for work by DreamWorks Animation SKG using Autodesk Maya

Best Animated Short Film

"This Way Up," for work by Nexus using Autodesk 3ds Max

"Oktapodi," for work by Gobelins, l’ecole de l’image (team of six students from Paris-based school) using Autodesk Maya

Best Foreign Language Film

"Waltz With Bashir," for work by CinePostProduction using Autodesk Flame and Lustre
