Jerusalem photographer Nir Alon, has once again embarked on a new journey. This time, to feature the personalities within the Israeli city.
In Tipusim.com, a website set up to showcase his tributes to his subjects of Alon’s photojournalistic undertaking, he explains that ‘Tipusim’ is Hebrew for characters, personalities, unique individuals.
For Alon, "The essence of Jerusalem isn't hidden under ancient stones. It isn't masked by a cloud of mysticism and belief. The essence of Jerusalem is alive in the people that live here and in the uniqueness of each and every one–a diversified and spectacular human mosaic".
The photographer further explains "Jerusalem has been my home for over three decades. Part of my childhood was here and this is where I chose to marry and raise my children. It's an unbelievable city with an amazing mosaic of people. It's the people that make the city!"
Three profiles are already available online: Beno Leibovici–Watchmaker, Brhan Mekonen– Actress and Itzchak Cohen–‘Itzik the Plumber.’ Each profile comprises a recorded interview and a slideshow of black and white stills, running about three minutes long.
As a small peek into the lives and hearts of the residents of Jerusalem, Alon hopes to add a new profile weekly and explains the use of black and white stills photography as the best medium to touch the souls of his subjects.
