Funds have been successfully raised for The MacDella Cooper Academy recently through the MacDella Cooper Foundation’s fashion affair at the finale of the New York Fashion Week. The academy is set to open in Liberia in 2010 to house and educate orphaned children.
Alongside humanitarian MacDella Cooper, also known as "Liberia's Angel," notable fashion and media guests enjoyed a lively evening of music by New York's DJ Dusko Justic and fashion at Nikki Beach Midtown. Guests witnessed an exclusive preview of Project Runway finalist Korto Momolu's stunning Fall 2009 collection and the unveiling of the MCF Academy by world-renowned architect Winka Dubbledam of NY's Archi-Tectonics.
Susan Metzger, CEO of Jones Apparel Group's Women's Sportswear, gave a spirited keynote address and pledged her sponsorship of a classroom in the MCF Academy. Bo Dietl and Ceslie Armstrong hosted an inspiring auction, allowing all guests to pledge to build the MCF Academy by underwriting a range of financial commitments, including bricks, classrooms, dorms, supplies, and solar panels.
