aniBoom, the premiere independent animation network, rounds up 2008 by showing winners of contests run by the company over the course of last year.
The yearly aniBoom awards invite independent animators to submit original works for judgment by jury and aniBoom community members. Over one thousand two hundred animations were submitted, with fifty videos winning $50,000 worth of prizes.
From these, one Grand Winner won a $25,000 development deal, three jury vote winners, and three community vote winners all receive cash prizes, while the remaining top videos are given honorable mention, as well as a selection of animation Toon Boom software and CGsociety Books and Stash DVD magazines.
For 2008, the winner of the aniBoom awards was Joaquin Baldwin for Sebastian's Voodoo. Community vote winners (in order of placement) are: Mitch Wade for 'Bang Bang You Are Bread'; Studio NX for A Day in the Life; and Takahiro Yamaguchi for Rainbow Rider.
Jury vote winners (in order of placement) are: Tomer Eshed for Our Wonderful Nature; Mikael Lynen for The Cold Rush; and Robin Fuller for The Ballad of Mary Slade.
"2008 saw some of the world's highest quality independent animation entered to the awards," said Shawn Stein, online marketing director for aniBoom.
"With the best of the best rising to the top as chosen by the audience, based on the community ranking system in place."
Exposure created by the aniBoom Awards can help promote the careers of creators from all winning levels.
Joaquin Baldwin and aniBoom Creators Studio are now working together to explore production of an original animated series. Other Awards winners have advanced to create animations for large media outlets and business concerns.
aniBoom, in conjunction with TBD Records, held the "In Rainbows Music Video competition in March.
The successful competition brought in such a high level of animated videos, it resulted in not one as originally planned, but four winners being chosen by Radiohead, each receiving $10,000 to complete their animated music video, which can be viewed at aniboom.com.
The four winning entries are as follows: Kota Totori of Japan for "15 Step"; Wolfgang Jaiser and Claus Winter of Germany for "Videotape"; Tobias Stretch of the United States for "Weird Fishes / Arpeggi".
And Clement Picon of France for "Reckoner", whose video was also selected as the official video for the hit Reckoner on the "In Rainbows" album.
