For the first time in a European art institution, Johan Grimonprez presents his latest work, “Double Take” (2008), part of the Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall collection.
The film interweaves material about and by Alfred Hitchcock with TV stories and reports from the Cold War.
Documentary and fiction merge into an experimental film that captures the viewer’s total attention for 90 minutes.
This work is partly a re-working of, and sequel to, Grimonprez’s film “Looking for Alfred” (2005).
Grimonprez was widely recognised at Documenta X for his work “Dial H-I-S-T-O-R-Y” (1997) – a film collage about airplane hijackings as related in various media, including TV news, propaganda films and cartoons.
The work highlights the media flow over the past thirty years, focusing on revolutionary impulses and the media’s expanding territory in our everyday lives.
Johan Grimonprez was born in 1962 in Belgium and lives and works in Brussels and New York.
