Bead Designers Get Opportunity Of A Lifetime
PRESS RELEASE

March 2009

Bonitas International, the fashion accessories company that redefines ‘Workplace Chic’ has given two designers the opportunity of a lifetime.

In an effort to assist aspiring designers in this challenging economy, the company asked interested designers to submit samples of their work for consideration in the first annual ‘So You Think You Can Bead’ contest and from the entries received, two designs were chosen.

The first design winner is Tracy Tuerk of Venice, FL: who created a necklace from simple blue beads accented with silver, strung on a fine black beading filament. Tracy started beading as a hobby, and fell in love with it. She makes lanyards as teacher gifts for her co-workers. Tracy loves seeing their smiles when they open their presents.

"As a veteran teacher, I am excited to have a 'second life' with my beaded lanyard designs carried by Bonitas International. This is a great opportunity to share my passion for beading with others," said Tracy after hearing of her selection.

The second design winner is Trace McAvity of Portsmouth, R.I. who designed a beaded necklace of blue and copper-colored beads. It was quite by accident that Trace started beading. Looking for extra income she created polymer clay necklaces.

"I find it energizing, and uplifting to bead," said Trace, "and through Bonitas Internationals inspiring contest, I have come to realize that this is what I was meant to do."

Lisa Harrington, BooJeeBeads Chief Designer said, "We are always seeking new designs in lanyards that will appeal to the working women who wear ugly employee ID badge holders in medical, educational, transportation and corporate and government workplaces. The aspiring designers that participated in the contest encourage me.”

“When we first started our company, we were two moms with a big dream. Today we are the largest supplier of ID jewelry in the world. A key social mission for our company is to empower women to reach for their dreams. Tracy and Trace were inspired and now we can see doors opening for them in the future."

Original designs in fashion lanyards, beaded lanyards, retractable lanyards or retractable badge reels were considered. Contest submissions were all received by December 31, 2008 for consideration.

Tracy and Trace have earned $150 for each of their designs as well as the chance for future design work with Bonitas International.
