For Weis Markets, Inc. (Sunbury, PA), one of the oldest and most profitable supermarket companies in the eastern United States, Guerilla FX (GFX) created three strikingly graphic :10 spots, Pills, Gas Rewards and Price Freeze.
The trio are appearing on Jumbotrons in stadiums in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia.
Designed and executed by GFX, an independent production, design, effects and post finishing company, the spots promote Weis Pharmacy ‘s commitment to providing generic prescription drugs for 90 days at just $9.99, or 11 cents a day.
Weis Gas Rewards which allow the Weis customer to fill their shopping cart and save enough to make filling their gas tank easier; And Weis Price Freeze – which guarantees that their lowered prices will be frozen for 90 days.
“Knowing that this campaign was going to be shown on Jumbotrons, we chose our Creative Director/Visual Effects Animator John Bair to design the spots."
"We needed big, bold animations, something that would immediately catch your eye and make you pay attention. The spots also have a little bit of Tex Avery style, but with real elements, for example when the gas-pump lands it does a little decompression and then hops away."
"John’s designs are striking and the fonts he chose are bang in-your-face, easy to read and impactful,” explained Thor Raxlen, GFX Partner/Creative Director.
“We also employed a macro sound design approach, created by So Loud. You can close your eyes and only listen to the spot and you will understand what is going on in the story."
"This way you have these two strong elements working in tandem. Wherever you are in the stadium, either the visuals or sound design will grab your attention."
David Cohen of Weis Markets added, “Finding a way to communicate three new selling initiatives with graphics and audio that play during the breaks at stadiums and arenas was made easy with strong concept and execution by Thor and company."
"From their first presentation they were totally on brand and we knew our message would read loud and clear. We've already heard from people who've been at some of these venues that they love the NEW look of Weis."
"So, we expect to be looking for more media opportunities to capitalize on what we know works. Bravo to Doug, Thor, Jody and Judy for making our project and collaboration a success.”
Under the direction of Raxlen, the concept, design and execution of the animations were completed by Designer John Bair,Technical Director/Animator/Character Animator Vance Miller, Executive Producer Doug Robbins, and Postproduction Supervisor Jody Peters. GFX utilized 3D Studio Max and After Effects in the execution of the project.
Representing Weis Markets (Sunbury, PA) was Advertising Manager David Cohen.
So Loud LTD (New York, NY) Sound Designers Paul Riggio and Nathan Kil were responsible for the sound effects and final audio mix.
