Schütte’s work is characterized by exceptional productivity and multi-sidedness: it testifies to an immense pleasure in materials.
Although Thomas Schütte (*1954) became famous with his table-sized architectural models, he works in a number of artistic mediums, including sculpture, painting, drawing, watercolour, etching and ceramics.
In addition to his commitment to manual work and his typical, often black humour, it is primarily sociocritical themes, such as the issues of human isolation and vulnerability, which distinguish thomas schütte’s extensive body of work.
The exhibition at the haus der kunst presents various groups of the artist’s work, which deal with these central themes and, with pieces dating from the 1980s to the present, also provide an overview of his multi-facetted oeuvre.
