April 2009
Following the first notable effort to spearhead RFID development in Singapore initiated by the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) in May 2004 and A*STAR Exploit Technologies in July 2005, the RFID Innovation Platform was set-up last February with $4.5 million from Ministry of Trade & Industry (MTI) to co-fund innovative RFID adoption projects over the next five years.
Strongly supported by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) and managed by National RFID Centre (Singapore), the platform encourages organisations in both the public and private sectors to conceptualise and pilot process innovation projects leading to greater cost efficiency, higher productivity and better service standards.
The platform is expected to expand the RFID industry by growing existing and new home-grown RFID companies, as well as attracting Multinational Corporations to be based in Singapore.
This move will also stimulate further research and development in advanced RFID technologies through collaboration between industry, A*STAR and local universities. Stronger interests in the RFID technology will stimulate the growth engines across different industries.
In line with the robust growth of RFID developments in the region and strong support from Singapore government, RFID World Asia exhibition and conference was launched in April 2004. The success of the event is evident as it runs into its 6th edition this year at Suntec Singapore.
This world class event has grown to become almost a week long extravaganza that includes the high level two-day executive conference, one specially designed master class and the three day RFID trade exhibition that features global RFID solutions and vendors under one roof for a one-stop-shop experience for the Asia RFID community.
"National RFID Centre is heartened to note that Terrapinn Pte Ltd is fully committed to stage RFID World Asia 2009 despite the global financial turmoil surrounding us."
"This will turn out to be a major event for all RFID practitioners, researchers, users and vendors to gather to find opportunities to exploit the use of RFID technologies for growth and sustainability", said Wong Tack Wai, Manager of National RFID Centre.
In 2009, GS1 Singapore has collaborated with Terrapinn Pte Ltd to stage RFID World Asia incorporating EPCGlobal Singapore Summit 2009.
Anticipated as the largest RFID conference in Asia Pacific this year, the two day conference will be officiated by Mr Lee Yi Shyan, Minister of State for Ministry of Trade & Industry (MTI), followed by multiple perspectives delivered by different industry experts per topic, including senior-level executives from Microsoft Corporation, National RFID Center (Singapore), Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (Korea), Singapore Manufacturers' Federation (SMa), Australian Post, Senstech Sdn Bhd (subsidiary of MIGHT, Malaysia), and GS1 Hong Kong etc.
This regional conference plays an irreplaceable role for bringing the top research, business and government minds together to address key issues relating to the application of this technology.
Targeted to draw over 1,500 trade visitors this year, this world-class event continues to attract a high powered mix of close to 80 international exhibitors from around the world and is recognized as the largest gathering of practitioners in the region.
Some of the big-hitting sponsors and exhibitors include: Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard (HP), NXP Semiconductors, STMicroelectronics, NEC Singapore, National RFID Centre, FCI Microconnection, SCM Microsystem, Smartrac Technology, Worldlabel Holdings, Giga-TMS, and etc.
"Microsoft is pleased to be participating in RFID World Asia 2009 as a way to demonstrate new ways of how our customers can extend and connect their existing applications, and deliver new projects more rapidly."
"In particular, we will be showcasing the Microsoft BizTalk RFID platform which was announced in December last year. Microsoft BizTalk RFID is an innovative device management and event processing platform at the edge of the enterprise."
"It is designed to provide a scalable, extensible platform for development, deployment, and management of RFID and sensor solutions. This is the industry's only RFID application platform that spans from servers to personal computers at the edge of enterprise to mobile devices" - Haresh Khoochandani, Director, Business & Marketing Organization, Microsoft Singapore.
"Customers want to increase supply chain visibility, improve audit control, and reduce property loss in the data center."
"They can achieve this with HP's advanced RFID technology, consulting, and integration services which HP will be showcasing at the RFID World Asia exhibition for the first time this year." - Tim Wilkinson, RFID Manager, HP Asia-Pacific and Japan region
RFID World Asia 2009 is proud to partner with the following associations and organisations: GS1 Singapore, National RFID Centre (Singapore), RFID Business Association (RFIDba), and Singapore Manufacturer's Federation (SMa).
