Hotel Shangri-LA: The Revival of Santa Monica's Celebrity Get-Away
PRESS RELEASE

April 2009

On the corner of Arizona and Ocean is one of Santa Monica's hidden treasures. Hotel Shangri-La, known for both its strong history and structural beauty, has recently reopened its legendary doors while in the final stages of its $30 million dollar renovation.

The renovation was the vision of hotelier Tehmina Adaya, whose late father purchased the hotel in the early 1980's after becoming enthralled with the stunning property.

Continuing her father's efforts, Adaya envisioned the Art Deco luxury hotel having all the modern amenities of today without losing its 1930's Hollywood appeal.

"Taking this piece of Santa Monica history into a new era has been so rewarding for me," says Adaya.

Since its opening in 1939 Hotel Shangri-La has entertained VIP guests from JFK Jr. to the Dalai Lama. This iconic hotel has celebrity appeal with A-listers such as Madonna, Tom Cruise, and Diane Keaton frequenting the luxurious suites that overlook the Santa Monica pier.

The New York Times says "Hotel Shangri-La is just what its name implies, a secret haven for a growing number of celebrities who want to be alone in Los Angeles. They pass the word along to one another."

A beacon of Art Deco beauty, Hotel Shangri-La allures its VIP's by offering absolute privacy, breathtaking views, and the glamour that takes you right back to the glory days of Hollywood.

While Hotel Shangri-La holds the paparazzi at bay, the glamour and amazing views attract countless professional fashion and celebrity photographers like Bruce Weber to the location for photo shoots.

"My home away from home - Hotel Shangri-La. It has the most beautiful penthouse overlooking the Pacific Ocean," says Weber.
