The Green Dot Awards will be honoring the winners of its 2008 competition with an awards ceremony at the SmogShoppe in Los Angeles, California.
The event will be hosted by Boise Thomas host of “Alter Eco” on Planet Green, the Discovery Channel’s eco-focused programming.
The Green Dot Awards is unique in that it was created to acknowledge that all forward-thinking "green" businesses should have the opportunity to be recognized; regardless of commercial success, public attention, or connections.
GDA aims to bridge the gap between truly innovative businesses that practice excellence in environmental responsibility with international consumers and media.
The Green Dot Awards will recognize the following special honorees. Stephan McGuire, Founder and President of Coalition for a Sustainable Africa and documentary film producer with the Visionary Award for his work on 11th Hour, the Leonardo DiCaprio produced and narrated film documenting the state of our environment and what we can do about it.
Opportunity Green founders, Karen Solomon and Mike Flynn, will receive the Community + Policy Award which recognizes that without the mobilization of community, sustainability on a local or global level are not possible.
“This ceremony has been long in coming, but we feel that Earth Day and the LEED Platinum Certified SmogShoppe in Los Angeles is the best combination to highlight the creativity of those who use their ideas to make a better planet,” says Mr. Farmani, the founder of the Green Dot Awards, “we are very excited to present the first annual Green Dot Awards with this venue.”
The Green Dot Awards will be a zero-waste event and produced with every effort made to be environmentally responsible from the venue itself which is fully solar powered, harvests it’s own rain water and has recycled, re-used and re-purposed many of it’s existing attributes, plastic water bottle free with reusable stainless steel bottles provided by ecousable, all paper and printed materials are able to be reused, recycled or composted down to the eco-friendly cocktails courtesy of VeeV and organic wines provided by Parducci Wines to the sustainable designed trophies made from recycled glass and bamboo.
The Green Dot Awards strive to acknowledge and promote forward thinking businesses and individuals that create environmentally responsible products or services and to reward revolutionary green business plans and proposals.
