May 2009

Skyfire, makers of the full PC Web experience browser for mobile devices, has announced their win of the Webby Awards’ People’s Voice Award for the best mobile application.

“We were honored to be in the company of Amazon Mobile, Nimbuzz, Salesforce Mobile, and USA Today iPhone app,” said Nitin Bhandari, CEO of Skyfire.

“To win the People’s Voice award in particular, is really thanks to the enthusiasm of Skyfire users around the world. We appreciate the acknowledgement and support from our rapidly growing and engaged Skyfire community. To win this prestigious award validates that Skyfire truly is a game-changing mobile browser.”

The Webby Awards being all about the Web is a perfect fit for the Skyfire browser since it is all about bringing the PC web to your phone, real fast. The Skyfire browser was the first mobile browser to support full Web PC browsing, including rich media content, and supporting Ajax, Flash 10, Quicktime, Windows Media, and others.

Skyfire is known for its speed and ability to handle the entire PC web on the phone. It gives users a mobile browsing experience that includes all of their favorite content–YouTube, Hulu, Facebook and Twitter, to name a few. It can be customized so users can stay connected to their relevant RSS feeds and Facebook and Twitter friends. In addition, it also has unique capabilities to share any web page directly to Facebook and Twitter networks.

Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by the New York Times and widely known as the most respected symbol of success on the Internet, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including Websites, Interactive Advertising, Online Film & Video, and Mobile Websites.

The awards are judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, a global organization that includes David Bowie, Harvey Weinstein, Arianna Huffington, Matt Groening, Jamie Oliver, Internet inventor Vinton Cerf, and RealNetworks CEO Rob Glaser. The 12th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from all 50 states and over 60 countries worldwide.

With the award win, Skyfire joins such past Webby Awards honorees as eBay, Google, Al Gore, will.i.am and David Bowie, as well as current winners Twitter, flickr, ESPN.com, digg, and Guitar Hero.
