AIGA Center for Cross Cultural Design (AIGA XCD), a national chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, is calling for entries to the first competition it is sponsoring.
Titled ‘Celebrating The Role Of Culture In Design,’ AIGA XCD was established to foster greater communication among designers across cultures as well as develop a better understanding of the interwoven experience of design and culture in our lives.
AIGA XCD believes that it is imperative for designers to think beyond their national and cultural borders in order to create visual communication that is responsive to the diversity of audiences today.
After six years of working to connect culture and the design community, AIGA XCD wants to experience how others take on the role culture plays in design by having them answer the question: How do you express the intersection between culture and design in today's world? Submissions can include print design, photography, interactive media or video.
According to AIGA XCD president, Zelda Harrison, “We are thrilled to be able to sponsor a competition that speaks to our mission of cross-cultural design and communication. We have gathered an international panel of 10 judges – each one unique in their contribution to design and branding for global audiences.”
“In our quest to help our audience realize the role of culture in design we will award, as one of the top prizes, a cash scholarship to attend the AIGA XCD Design Expedition to China in October 2009.”
