News Corporation Elevates Hemanshu Ngiam
PRESS RELEASE

May 2009

News Corporation has elevated Fox Interactive Media/MySpace Chief Security Officer Hemanshu (Hemu) Nigam to a broader role, where he will be responsible for setting the strategy and vision for safety, security, and privacy programs across all of News Corporation’s online properties.

Nigam will continue to oversee all MySpace safety, security and privacy programs.
Based in Los Angeles, Nigam will report to Ellen Agress, Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of News Corporation. Nigam will also work closely with News Corporation’s recently appointed Chief Digital Officer, Jon Miller.

As a veteran in online safety, security, and privacy, Nigam brings nearly 20 years experience in both private industry and law enforcement fields. Since joining the company in May 2006, Nigam has run all safety, security, privacy, education, NGO and law enforcement programs for MySpace, IGN and Photobucket. He also oversaw the development of safety, security, and privacy features on MySpace and other FIM properties.

Nigam has championed a number of safety milestones for MySpace including the launch of Sentinel SAFE technology which enables the company to protect its online community from registered sex offenders. He also was instrumental in the driving the adoption of the Joint Statement on Key Principles of Social Networking Safety, announced in January 2008 by MySpace and 49 State Attorneys General. Nigam created and implemented MySpace’s safety site, which offers information for parents, teachers, and teens, as well as a 24/7 response system for law enforcement, parents, and schools. Furthermore, Nigam led efforts that resulted in 21 states and the federal government passing email registration legislation across the country.

On the security front, Nigam spearheaded the implementation of security incident response and enforcement programs to prevent and prosecute those who attempt to harm MySpace users with virus, worm, and phishing attacks.

Nigam has also led the implementation of privacy protections for MySpace’s younger users preventing unwanted contact from adults and empowering all users to control what information they wish to share with others.
