One Fine Arts Drive, Forest Park
St. Louis
22 May – 25 May 2009
During Memorial Day weekend, the Saint Louis Art Museum will participate in the annual St. Louis African Arts Festival in Forest Park with African art-inspired tours, art projects and a Family Sunday musical listen-and-learn session.
The Museum kicks off the festivities by welcoming Malian kora musician Mamadou Diabate to Grigg Gallery. The free performance is part of the Museum's Art After 5 series, which features solo and ensemble musicians the fourth Friday of each month. Puck's offers drinks and light fare in Sculpture Hall during each Art After 5 performance.
Beginning May 23 through May 25, Museum guests are invited to join an African Arts Festival Family Tour: The Power of African Art.
On May 24, the Museum welcomes Zimbabwe Nkenya, a local musician, composer and m'bira virtuoso. The event is part of the weekly Family Sundays program, which runs each Sunday and includes a lively 30-minute tour through the Museum's collection and highlight pieces that inspired the art projects.
